#Personal development
Since when did work become more important than the humans we recruit?
Since when did concern get substituted for saying the “right” words and ticking the right boxes?
We’ve become so fixated on potentials and capabilities and abilities, that we fail to acknowledge a drowning person
…and then blame them for not speaking up
Speak up?
So many times, something happens, and we say “speak up”, yet our posturing betrays the fact that we do not genuinely care
It’s not saying the words “we care…” or “we are concerned…” or “we are committed to…”
Its in how we treat those who need help, support and breaks
What makes a person ultimately decide whether or not to trust you actually lies in how they see you react to others who needed the sort of support they do
It cements their subconscious decision about who can and cannot be trusted, who they should let in, and who should be walled out …cos a few things hurt deeper than (attempting to) pour(ing) your heart out to someone, but meeting
- rebuff
- platitudes
- dismissal
- minimizing
…or a version of “you should have been over this by now”ย
A new variance I encountered in recent months is appropriation:
…where they take the complaint and trivialize it by using it in every day (or work) conversation
The evil thing about appropriation is that it practically robs you of the right to ask for help because it paints your request(s) for support as you being lazy or unwilling to put in the required effort that “everyone else” is putting in

We are where we are, and we are grateful for opportunities and progress
We also reserve the right to decide that that version of life is no longer what we want, and move on
