Speaking in Public

(From the IBO Execution Bootcamp where I served as a Faculty member)

Not every one starts out with a strong vocal voice, but everyone has a voice. One of the easiest ways to grow confidence in reaching your audience is to start with your own medium. It does not always have to be standing in the front of a crowd. Some people do better with cameras than physical audiences, while others would perform better with just a microphone. Some write better than they speak, some draw better than they write or speak.

Find your message
Some ask questions better than they teach. They have the gift of asking the right questions in the sort of way that draws out treasure troves of knowledge that even their interviewee did not realize that they possess (Oprah Winfrey, Christiane Amanpour etc.). Some teach better than they question, some can do either depending on the situation, and some can do both. And that’s just one side of the story.
Because when you also find your groove (the topics that matter the most to you, and are reaching the audience that tugs the most at your heart), you’d find that EVERY single person has the ability to speak, share and do it well

For example, I stutter. Sometimes, it’s so bad that I cannot complete a sentence.

But I have never stuttered while teaching Scriptures, and more recently, I found that I almost do not stutter when I talk about autism, ADHD and neurodivergence in general.

I do not stutter when on assignment. I do not stutter when in a prophetic flow.

My contemporaries from Literary and Debating societies who only got to interact with me when I showed up for public speaking contests (impromptu speeches were my groove, and I NEVER lost a match) do not know that I stutter.

So that’s another dimension. When the Holy Spirit covers you, your weakness is hidden in the empowerment and endowment of His strength
